David Koh Begins Private Screening Series With Glenn O'Brien And Maripol

This Monday evening marked the launch of The Roxy Hotel Cinema’s partnership with David Koh and Submarine Films. Koh inaugurated a private screening series with a showing of cult classic, Downtown 81 with writers and producers, Glenn O’Brien and Maripol both present, along with Thomas Browder, better known as Kid Creole. The film was followed by an intimate Q + A session where both O’Brien and Maripol shared exclusive details about the film. Insight was shared on why the name changed from New York Beat to Downtown 81 (O’Brien felt a number in the title helped it’s popularity), light was shed on Andy Warhol’s brief appearance in the movie and both revealed that there was in fact only one paid professional actor on the entire set. The invite-only event marks the first of many that will roll-out this year, in addition to a public screening program for hotel guests and the public.
