The Muse Of Rock and Roll
The Roxy Hotel continues its successful partnership with The Morrison Hotel Gallery and announces the unveiling of a photography exhibition by Rock and Roll’s muse, Pattie Boyd. From April 6th through May 31st, The Roxy Hotel will showcase a curated exhibition of Pattie Boyd’s photography throughout the public spaces to celebrate Pattie’s new book “My Life In Pictures.”
Pattie Boyd is known internationally as an award-winning photographer, exhibiting her works around the world. Her back-story is an amazing tale of fame and glamour, mixed with a little sadness, as she shared her life with some of the most famous entertainers on the planet.
Pattie was pictured by all of the leading photographers of her day and she graced the covers of fashion magazines including several appearances on the front of Vogue. In 1964, Pattie accepted a cameo role in The Beatles’ first movie, ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and it was on this film-set where she first met George Harrison. They wed in 1966 (Paul McCartney was the Best Man) and were married for ten years.
Whilst married to George, Pattie was an integral part of some of the most pivotal Beatle events – she attended the Our World broadcast of All You Need Is Love in 1967. Through her interest in Eastern mysticism, she inspired all four Beatles to meet Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in London, also in 1967, which resulted in a visit to the Maharishi’s seminar in Bangor.
As her marriage to George dissolved, Pattie began a relationship with Eric Clapton and the couple eventually married in 1979. Whilst with Eric, Pattie lived the archetypal 1970s rock and roll lifestyle as she accompanied the guitarist and his band on massive world tours across all continents. This continued into the 80s with huge shows including Eric’s set at the Philadelphia Live Aid show in 1985. Pattie watched from backstage with friends Mick Jagger and Phil Collins as Eric played old favorites including ‘Layla’.
It’s fair to say that Pattie has been the inspiration for some of the most beautiful love songs ever written – including Layla – and George’s masterpiece, Something. The title of Pattie’s autobiography Wonderful Today also alludes to the classic Wonderful Tonight that Eric Clapton wrote about her while she was getting ready for an evening out.
Following the demise of her second marriage, Pattie immersed herself in her photography and began to expand her portfolio with a mix of shots of some of her friends such as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Jerry Hall alongside beautiful landscapes and imagery of ordinary folk from around the world whom Pattie had met upon her travels.
It is from this eclectic portfolio upon which Pattie draws to produce her exhibitions with great success. The pictorial feast of imagery in My Life in Pictures is accompanied by Boyd’s stories and recollections.
