Security Manager

Position Summary

The Security Manager is responsible for protecting the life and safety of all hotel occupants, safeguarding the physical premises, guest and team member property, and protecting the business assets and reputation of the company. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and complete reporting of all security-related incidents, and oversees lost and found operations as well as package and parcel management, including logging, secure storage, and proper distribution.

The Security Manager is responsible for conducting and overseeing daily, weekly, and monthly building safety audits, ensuring that all safety, security, and life-safety systems are functioning properly and that deficiencies are promptly documented and addressed. This role is also responsible for staying current with the building’s Fire and Life Safety Plan, ensuring adherence to all required procedures, and maintaining compliance with all required certifications, licenses, and training for themselves and the Security team.

The Security Manager must possess all qualifications and responsibilities of the Security Supervisor and Base Officer and provide guidance and supervision to Security team members, including maintaining and improving team morale. The role assists the Director of Security with training and retraining initiatives, monitoring competency, performance, and effectiveness, and supporting disciplinary actions, payroll, and scheduling on a day-to-day basis. The Security Manager also assists with conducting regular OSHA-required safety training for hotel departments.

Responsiblities

  • Respond to, investigate, and report all security incidents
  • Ensure security reports and investigations are complete and accurate
  • Ensure all Security personnel are following policies and procedures correctly
  • Ensure all necessary shift tasks are completed
  • Ensure all logs, shift recaps, and inventories are complete and accurate
  • Conduct side-by-side training with all Security personnel
  • Recommend maintenance, purchase of supplies, and training as necessary
  • Monitor CCTV surveillance for suspicious or concerning activity
  • Document reports concerning security incidents; obtain physical evidence and supporting information
  • Communicate emergency situations and safety hazards to management
  • Conduct/assist with evacuation measures during an emergency
  • Train hotel emergency response members, and coordinate their assistance during an emergency situation
  • Request and coordinate emergency medical services when needed
  • Perform first aid for guest and team member injuries
  • Conduct and document routine fire and life safety tests and inspections
  • Patrol building premises and monitor security & life safety systems
  • Conduct physical access control and visitor identification/verification
  • Conduct team member key fob and RFID access card control
  • Issue, and document issuance of team member keys, radios, equipment, paychecks, and key fobs
  • Log package/parcel deliveries and misplaced property, and handle item distribution and return
  • Conduct necessary maintenance of door locks and guest room safes
  • Assist with VIP security and privacy, event security, and contractor access-control needs and functions
  • Responsible for arranging and hosting training sessions pertaining to OSHA-mandated and recommended topics for the Housekeeping, Engineering, Food & Beverage & Front Office departments
  • Evaluate safety training effectiveness and make suggestions for improvement
  • Identify safety and security topics of team member concern

Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in hospitality, housing, or facility security, with at least two years in a supervisory or lead officer role, or at least one year in a management role.
  • Valid New York State Security Guard License (required upon hire)
  • FDNY Fire & Life Safety Director Certification (F89, T89, or F85 – required upon hire)
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification (required or attained at hire)
  • OSHA 10-hour and/or 30-hour training certification (required or attained at hire)
  • Flexible schedule, with the ability to work on weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed (required)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Computer literate, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office technology and equipment
  • Experience with Micros Opera and/or Knowgross a plus
  • Experience with Saflok, Vingcard, MS-Shift, Win-Pak systems a plus
  • FDNY City Wide Fire Guard (F01) Certification a plus
  • FDNY Sprinkler/Standpipe Inspection (S12/S13) Certification a plus
  • FDNY Supervision of Fire Panel (S95) Certification a plus
  • FDNY Public Assembly Safety Personnel (F03) Certification plus
  • FDNY Fire Drill Conductor (F07) Certification a plus
